Energy and Power is a very important sector that contributes to the well being of the whole economy of the country.  It is critical to the growth of the country that the energy and power industry functions smoothly and without infliction of any kind. For this, the necessary requirement is to have highly qualified and specialized professionals at the helms of industry, who fully understand and are skilled in the technicalities of this sector.  For a country of the size of India, it comes as a surprise that there was no dedicated institution, which could give the students the expertise required to handle such a complex and vital industry.
